Liza May Post has been asked to represent the Netherlands this year at the 49th Venice Biennale. She shows a comprehensive installation in the Rietveld Pavilion consisting of film, video and photographic works. Since its first presentation in the early 1990s, the work of Liza May Post (Amsterdam, 1965) has displayed an unusually strong homogeneity in its development. Both her performances and her photographs and film/video installations always contain an element of alienation and vulnerability. The human figure that is constantly present in Post's work is almost always introverted, turned away from the world around it.
This publication will not only focus on Post's work itself, but will also set it within a broader cultural and philosophical context. Besides extensive full-colour photographs of her work, the book will include an introduction by Jaap Guldemond (curator of the Dutch entry for the 49th Venice Biennale), several essays, introductions to the work, and an extensive biography and bibliography.
Exhibition in the Rietveld Pavilion, Venice from 10 June till 4 November 2001
