Published to coincide with the exhibition at the Architecture Foundation Gallery this book includes illustrations of selected projects from the professional and student competitions. In addition it includes a section which looks at the context for the development of social housing; a report on the seminars held in conjunction with the student competition and four essays. In the first two essays, Jeremy Till & Sarah Wigglesworth, and Hilary French raise questions about the development of typical plans and the usefulness of a typological approach to design. In the second two, David Rudlin and Pierre d'Avoine discuss broader issues of urban strategies in relation to housing provision.
