Paintings, sculptures, design objects and architectural projects for buildings required by the Fascist regime are important documents of the situation of figurative and decorative arts in Italy through the two decades of Fascism, from the March on Rome and the rise of Mussolini's power untill his fall in 1943. Inspite of the cult of the Duce and the exaltation of military power this period does not appear to be characterised by any unity of style or inspiration. Only a great variety and richness seem to represent the so-called 'Fascist' art.
The catalogue reproduces the pieces of art of the Wolfson Collection of Genoa in the exhibition in halls of the Estorick Collection of London. This is actually a significant moment in the program of the Estorick Collection because it is the first time the building is open to a project with no permanent collection on display
