The Triumph of Painting was the title for an ambitious series of exhibitions organised by the Saatchi Gallery in London, which began early in 2005. The final instalment of the exhibition will take place with the opening of a new, larger Saatchi Gallery at the end of 2006. The book that was originally published has nearly sold out in a year and in the meantime both Saatchi's collection and the extent of the exhibition have expanded. "The Complete Volume", at close to six hundred pages, will be the definitive book on the whole current of new painting. No such reference exists in the art world. It will include the work of the most influential European figures, new painters from Eastern Europe and the United States, and a wide range on previously unknown and un-exhibited young artists. Saatchi, more than any other figure, has defined the pace and shape of new art shown in Britain. Half of "The Complete Volume" will represent work that was not published in the earlier edition and for the first time the full overview of the landmark enterprise will be established.
