The Faculty of Architecture of the Delft University of Technology is recognized as one of the most dynamic and innovative research and design schools in Europe. It is also one of Europe's largest and most internationally oriented schools to provide architectural education at university level. Its research and education programmes cover a wide variety of planning, design, construction and management of the built environment. The Architecture Annual offers a selection of articles on the school's progress in research and education. Covering a range of topical issues, it includes a cross section of the research done by faculty members and the graduation projects carried out by students in the academic year 2000-2001. This year it focuses on design education in relation to research and design. Current discourse on planning issues, the network society, the problems of integration, the increazing individualization and the rise of ICT do much to define the research themes threated within its pages. The Faculty plays a vital part in the international debate on shaping our physical living environment on different scale levels from a sustainable, cultural and economical perspective. Its graduation projects never fail to provide a new angle on design. This makes the Annual an inspiring read and a rich source of information for all those concerned with the built environment
