Like his paintings, Borremans' drawings look like solidified fragments of an indeterminate and elusive time. They introduce the viewer to a sombre universe, devoid of bright colours in which characters do strange things or carry out bizarre rituals without any conviction. Time consuming and relatively small their inspiration is often found in literature and photographic archives from the first half of the 20th century. Including projects that will never be implemented, this book offers a survey of his drawings including more recent work.
