Drawings devoted to the themes of eroticism and sexuality by Louise Bourgeois, Marlene Dumas, Paul McCarthy, and Raymond Pettibon.
Despite their considerable differences and individuality, the artistic positions of Louise Bourgeois, Marlene Dumas, Paul McCarthy, and Raymond Pettibon share an intent exploration of the topics of eroticism and sexuality. Intense physical states such as ecstasy, passion, conflict, and fear-as are revealed in the comparatively ethereal "medium of the mind" of drawing-become pictorial metaphors of a tender, aggressive, attached, forceful, and even erotic confrontation of each artist with the material.
This book presents extensive groups of drawings by these artists from the Sammlung Hauser und Wirth. Instructive texts shed light on the connection between body, eroticism, sexuality, and creativity, as well as the potential for conflict embedded in the individual artists´ works.
