Photographs bring the world closer to us. The art of architectural photography, however, does even more; we get not only detailed images of the cityscape, but also a sense of the atmosphere, culture and pulse of the city. It allows us to walk around the building, and to look inside a building not generally open to the public. Tiainen, one of the most well-known Finnish contemporary architectural photographers, takes us around Helsinki, one of the major cities in the world for new architecture.
A heritage of good architecture and urban design has prevailed in Helsinki since the times of Eliel Saarinen and Alvar Aalto. But nowadays the scene is even wider, in terms of both new generations of architects and the rapid yet carefully planned development of the city.
Helsinki - Contemporary Urban Architecture Photographed by Jussi Tiainen was first published in 2001. The 2nd Enlarged Edition contains 21 new sites, all of which were completed after 2001. Also new picture material of the previously published sites is included. The 2nd Enlarged Edition contains a total of 51 different sites, from houses to office buildings.
