Beat Consoni is known well beyond the borders of Switzerland for his finely balanced solitaire buildings. His recent work is always based on an analysis of the urban space and the topography of the site, for it is these two elements that provide Consoni with the key to the individual building. He talks about corrections to earlier mistakes, of gestures of buildings, of boundaries to village development areas, of self-confident interventions in existing housing developments and the organisation of urban structures - starting points and solutions that reveal a strong architectural will.
Our publication represents the first collection of some of Consoni's most recent and important buildings in Eastern Switzerland. The work is completed by an interview between Beat Consoni and Gerhard Mack, and descriptions of projects by Gerhard Mack, the well-known Swiss architecture and art critic (editor of the complete monograph of Herzog & de Meuron and of the Sunday edition of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung).
