Darkness & Light: Caravaggio and his World deserves the title of blockbuster.
There are 68 works from the 17th century, all credibly relating to the dramatic dark manner of Caravaggio's epoch. Many include scenes of daily life, for which Caravaggio has famously been cited as the innovator.
The quality of the works is patchy; but it's a mistake to judge a major historical show on the worst examples, especially when there are plenty of good ones.
At the very least, the mediocre works fill out the awareness of an epoch normally only understood by awesome masterpieces.
Five of the nine Caravaggios are outstanding: the earlier Boy Bitten by a Lizard has all the gorgeous inflections and sonorities that the later version lacks, which almost looks to be painted from a photograph.
