Stunning photographs of seven historically significant projects by the Pritzker-Prize winning architect Norman Foster celebrate three decades of magnificent work. "The history of cities is the history of change," writes Norman Foster. "In buildings that evolved over time the original layers of history can often be understood when seen alongside the new. Sometimes we have to explore the past to find inspiration for the future." That philosophy is everywhere in evidence in this beautiful volume, companion to an exhibit at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.
In her introduction Paula Dietz explores Foster and Partner's approach to "building with history" over the past thirty years, culminating with the remodeling of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The late architectural photographer Mark Fiennes' photographs illustrate seven projects that epitomize Foster's gift at integrating the new and the old in historically significant structures, including the Great Court at the British Museum and the Reichstag in Berlin.
