China displays a different countenance at every visit. The urban scenery transforms day by day. accelerated by remarkable economic growth and energetic population.
The two metropolises of Beijing and Shanghai in particular, aiming at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, do not know how to arrest this dynamism, and even now new buildings are being erected in rapid succession.
Narrowing the focus of the global attention being given to these two metropolises, this book introduces modern and contemporary architecture from around the year 1900 up until the present. The selection of buildings. the texts, and the photography were all carried out with the generous Tsinghua University,Tongji University, and CA-Group.
Although Beijing and Shanghai have differing historical depths and backgrounds, it would be no exaggeration to say that the countenances of these two metropolises are representative of contemporary China. We sincerely hope this book will bring you into contact with China's past and future. Beijing
