The Gerrit Rietveld Academy operates under a unique educational concept. Designers are encouraged to approach design assignments in their own incomparable manner. This is why its graduates cannot be called straight forward interior designers. Asking Questions draws a picture of the academy's conceptual approach to architecture through a historical perspective of education, student statistics, an inventory of outstanding study assignments and an overview of the work of past graduates after they left the academy. Giving extra attention to the work of five former students, this book shows, after graduating, they have been active in all branches of the design industry. This varies from graphic design and public space by Joost Grootens, interiors by Ramin Visch, work on different scale-levels by Ira Koers, Astrid Honold's art, to the theatre and exhibition design by Daan Amen. Rich in images, Asking Questions offers a caleidoscopical perspective of ten years of architectural design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, where people are not afraid to experiment with furniture, costumes, films, animation and extreme models besides the regular educational programme
