Collector Duncan Phillips devoted his life to bringing his joy and understanding of art to greater audiences. By the time he purchased Renoir's celebrated Luncheon of the Boating Party in 1923, Phillips was committed to gathering the remarkable art of the modern age and had opened a museum in his family's home. El Greco to Picasso presents modern masterworks of the late 19th and early 20th centuries alongside works by earlier masters that Phillips felt were precursors to the art of his time, such as Delacroix, Ingres, El Greco, and Chardin. This landmark tour of European art will travel to just four cities in addition to Phoenix, the only venue for the exhibition in the Southwest.
