Bruna and Mellano, both students of Gabetti and Isola, opened their studio in 1989 and located their design activities in Cuneo and more generally in the Piemonte region, with a series of public and residential works showing how it is possible to marry modernity and a re-reading of the local building tradition. Their work seeks a calm, knowing and ironic rapport with the context in which they work, be it alpine valleys or residential areas, offices or open spaces between Cuneo and the Turin peripheral belt. This publication is the first book bringing together their entire production.
Paolo Mellano is Associate Professor in Architecture and Urban Studies at the Turin Polytechnic.
Flavio Bruna and Paolo Mellano were born in Cuneo in 1963. They graduated in architecture at the Turin Polytechnic in 1988 and set up their studio in 1989.
To their credit, they have gained considerable experience in design and direction of works for public and private companies. The architect Giorgio Ponzo collaborates regularly on the studio's projects, and also more recently, the architect Stefano Ambrogio.
Flavio Bruna and Paolo Mellano have participated in several architecture competitions, and have achieved awards and recognition; they are regularly invited to show their work in exhibitions and conferences on architecture.
Their projects are published in leading Italian and international design and architecture journals. They collaborate on research and design projects in the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design (Di.Pr.A.D.I.), part of the Faculty of Architecture at the Turin Polytechnic.
Both have participated in projects and competitions with the Gabetti and Isola studio of Turin. Flavio Bruna also currently works on activities with the Isolarchitetti studio of Turin: he has worked on urban regeneration projects in historic and environmentally sensitive areas, urban parks, new residential developments, offices and religious complexes.
