Taking as a general departure point recent museum projects, this issue zooms in on museum projects that are firmly rooted in their community or that are small in scale but with distinguishing characteristics. Together with recent projects such as the new Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, A+U surveys museums such as TEA, Tenerife Space of the Arts, Canary Islands; the Iberê Camargo Museum, Porto Alegre, Brazil; the Fuglsang Kunstmuseum, Lolland, Denmark; the Museum of Arts and Design, New York; and, the Ecomuseum in Les Landes, France. These museums are further characterised by their selection of sustainable materials, a symbioses with adjacent buildings and their relationship with their surrounding landscape. A total of 12 museums are examined here in total, all accompanied by colour photographs, plans, elevations and introduced by a short essay by Hans Ibelings.
