Since winning the international competition for the new Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart in 2002, the
UN Studio not only worked on the design itself but on the design of special techniques for its realization.
The unusual design methodology is explained using complex computer simulations on the form and structural design, models and photos, giving an insight into the development of the architecture of the innovative building. Mirroring the organisation of the building as a double helix with two curving ramps, the book also combines two different approaches: a chronological presentation of the evolution of the museum combined with the fundamental topics of the studio.
UN Studio (formerly van Berkel & Bos architectenbureau) was founded in 1988 by Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos. The studio's most well-known projects include the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam, the Möbius house, the development of the train station areal in Arnheim, the refurbishment of a pier in the port of Genoa and a department store in Seoul.
