Shipping containers were designed to economi-cally and securely store and transport goods over long distances in watertight conditions. Their dimensions were internationally standar-dized, particularly in terms of height and the shape of the enclosure itself. The most striking coincidence, and a rather odd one at that, is that the space that had been designed to store and transport good, to certain degree, happens to have the right human scale as well. This means they are entirely appropriate for designing inhabitable spaces. They can be juxtaposed or joined together to form architecturally complex structures. Los contenedores marítimos han sido diseñados para almacenar y transportar mercancías a gran distancia, y de forma estanca, económica y segura. Las dimensiones están normalizadas de forma internacional, aunque existen variaciones dimensionales, especialmente en altura, y en forma de la envolvente. Lo más importante es que se da la curiosa coincidencia que, con ciertos matices, los espacios que han sido proyectados para almacenar y transportar mercancías, tienen una escala humana adecuada. Es decir, son muy válidos para proyectar espacios habitables. Pueden yuxtaponerse y unirse entre sí, formando estructuras arquitectónicas complejas
