Andras Kaldor is a Hungarian artist living in England who specialises inarchitectural paintings. His recent book, Opera Houses of Europe, chronicled the architectural splendours of the opera lover's world.
In his new work he crosses the Atlantic to survey the no less splendid buildings of New York, concentrating mainly on those designed and constructed at the end of the nineteenth century. Most of the buildings featured are includedin the New York City Preservation Commission's list.
Kaldor features themain facades as well as finer architectural details of some 50 historicNew York landmarks ranging from the U.S. Custom House and the Woolworth Building in Lower Manhattan, through the Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station and St Patrick's Cathedral in Midtownand the Metropolitan Museum, the Dakota and the Frick Collection uptown
