In this exhibition focussing on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, visitors will experience the atmosphere of late 18th century Europe, an era imbued with the divergent influences of the Enlightenment, the rococo (life) style, classicism, and the incipient Romantic movement. The artist persona of Mozart and his social, cultural and artistic background are presented by means of numerous original manuscripts, important art works as well as historical exhibits - as a "staged sphere of knowledge" which also brings digital media into play. In presenting Mozart's life and work, his travels, the European stations of his career, the myths surrounding him and the "prodigy" theme, the exhibition will also reveal the visionary concepts of Europe's epoch of supranationality - a prelude to modernism that can be seen as the "débuts des siècles". In this era fraught with potential for the future we are able to discover the real topicality of a political and cultural caesura, which can help us to gain a better understanding of our own world and of society in Europe today.
