After figural bronzes and jewellery [vol. 1] and fibulae of the Early/Middle Empire and Late Roman metal finds [vol. 2], this is the final volume on early finds from Burghöfe including 1,148 illustrated pieces. Although one is dealing with stray finds without a vertical or horizontal stratigraphical context, the quantity and quality are impressive and by far surmounting find retrieval in the 2001-2007 excavation campaigns. Similar as with fibulae, there are some objects, which may date into the pre-Claudian period, but need not necessarily do so, so that definite proof for an Augustan use of the site is still lacking. The majority of finds belongs to the Tiberian-Neronian period with close parallels in the legionary fortress at Vindonissa, which was founded during the reign of Tiberius. Military finds clearly attest the presence of cavalry, probably a historically still unknown Cohors quingenaria equitata, and of legionaries. The withdrawal of the garrison occurred at the earliest in the late 1st or early 2nd century A.D.. A group of 80 finds of the late 2nd and 3rd century may be a hint at a revived occupation around this time, before the Late Antique fort was built on the easterly neighbouring spur.
