This book shows the main examples in the history of architecture of the city of Milan, since the origins until the evolution of XIX century urbanism. It is an exhaustive easy-reading guide supplied with photographic documentation of new quarters and squares, of the restoration of churches and the building of schools, house-museums and theatres. The book also examines the architecture of factories, hospitals, banks and hotels, business and private buildings. The peculiarity of the Risorgimento and Eclectic age is the typical neo-reinassance style decorations in terra cotta, a umile and primitive material, characteristic of the traditional Lombard architecture. In the same period the triumphalist architecture of the Casa dei Bersaglieri and the Teatro dal Verme rises with painted plaster façades. Last section focuses on the many artists working in succession, for more than four centuries, for the Fabbrica del Duomo of Milan
