Play gives a picture of the design mentality and work of the architect duo Marc and Nicole Maurer. They often collaborate intensively with designers from other disciplines, thereby enriching the architectural design with all manner of ongoing social and cultural developments. They present the results of their analyses and research projects in five imaginary periodicals. The scientifically underpinned Mastercopy Magazine analyses the hip-hop subculture. Accessorize Magazine, made up like a fashion glossy, focuses on the way social and cultural developments in designing and lifestyle make inroads into architecture. Authentics Magazine, for skateboarders, places at centre stage analysis of the architectural design process and its potential to instil cultural authenticity. The graphically orientated Inconstruct Magazine describes research into the possibility of combining architecture and graffiti into cutting-edge forms. Lastly, the high-art/low-art Project Playtime Magazine explores the possibilities of making culture and architecture a subject of discussion at all levels of society.
