With the Luxembourg Pavilion for EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, the internationally renowned practice HERMANN & VALENTINY and partners has impressively demonstrated what a contemporary
alliance of architecture and art can look like. Their striking design of
a 'house with a garden' conveys a surprisingly sensual symbiosis of
traditional Luxembourg architecture and the features of the Chinese
location, while simultaneously addressing, in many diverse references,
how Luxembourg is perceived at home and abroad. With the help
of numerous drawings, plans, models and photographs, the entire
creative process of this pavilion is portrayed.
An interview with François Valentiny provides insights into the background of the design, while essays by Ingeborg Flagge and Matthias Alexander place the building in an historical and architectural theoretical context.
