Two years before its death Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) installed its monumental work "the end 20. Century" still even in the resident of Munich house of the art: it arranged 44 weighty basalt blocks - each particular trichterförmig drilled and locked with in such a way won" plug ", embedded in felt and clay/tone, again - to impressing a moved and moving formation, which loaded the whole area with meaning. The removal of this installation into the again established Pinakothek of the modern trend placed curators such as restorers before an almost unsolvable task, not least because of that to violently and controversially led discussions whether one may touch a work arranged personally by the artist at all. When in September 2002 the Pinakothek of the modern trend was opened, for many inconceivable ones had happened: A key work outgoing 20. Century its new place had found and nothing from its suggestiven Kraft had lost. The Monographie published of the Doerner Institut and the Bavarian state painting collections lights up the Beuys' sche space sculpture, its genesis, exhibition history and new installation, under all only conceivable aspects. Art historians and Beuys specialists, restorers, geologists, a survey engineer and a professor of philosophy argue with the questions, "the end 20. Century" also after Beuys with unreduced urgency places.
