His glass facades which include those for the Germen Foreign Office in Berlin, are a playful interaction of light, reflection and refraction. They direct our gaze outwards or create changing impressions for passers-by depending on the position of the sun Carpenter has also made short films and video installations which deal primarily with natural phenomena. He was responsible for designing the facade of the Seven World Trade Center (developed with SOM) the first high-rise to be completed át Ground Zero in October 2005.
