Un grande catalogo accompagna la rassegna espositiva ospitata a Verona il prossimo inverno, che vuole approfondire un momento della civiltà pittorica scaligera finora mai indagato: il Settecento. Con la riproduzione di circa 150 capolavori tra dipinti, disegni, stampe e documenti, provenienti da importanti musei italiani e stranieri, il volume evidenzia le peculiarità della cultura e della tradizione pittorica settecentesca a Verona, città che riuscì a mantenere sempre autonomia e originalità rispetto alle correnti dominanti nella vicina Venezia. Fra gli artisti spiccano le personalità di Pietro Antonio Rotari, definito il "pittore della corte russa" per aver lavorato a lungo a servizio degli zar e dell'imperatrice Elisabetta, e di Giambettino Cignaroli, fondatore dell'Accademia di Pittura che oggi porta il suo nome, entrambi emblemi di un classicismo di grande innovazione e modernità. Ampio spazio è dedicato ai vedutisti come Bernardo Bellotto, e naturalmente alle opere realizzate per la città scaligera da Giambattista e Giandomenico Tiepolo. I numerosi saggi accolti nel volume indagano con completezza vari aspetti legati alla civiltà veronese del Settecento, offrendo un quadro degli avvenimenti storici e sociali e documentando, oltre all'attività artistica, la riflessione sull'architettura e la produzione libraria. Il volume è completato da apparati bibliografici.
