The name Behnisch is associated with a form of architecture which is characterized by transparency, lightness and a decidedly modern approach. At first a branch of Behnisch - Partner, the partners, Günter Behnisch, Stefan Behnisch, Günther Schaller, went on to form their own office in 1997 under the name Behnisch, Behnisch - Partner. Based in both Stuttgart and Los Angeles, the architects have already won a number of international competitions and realised many significant projects. In this volume, some 30 buildings and designs created by the office in the last 12 years are documented in detail, complemented by texts which explore such topics as colour, ecology and landscape, high-rise structures, art, expressive architecture, and facades. Amongst the projects presented are the acclaimed St. Benno School in Dresden (RIBA Award 1998), the Institute Building for Research in Forestry and Nature Research in Wageningen, the recently completed offices for the Norddeutsche Landesbank in hanover, and numerous large projects whciha re planned or are under construction such as the Genzyme Center in Cambridge, USA, the Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research in Toronto, Canada, and the Organisation Mondiale de la Propriete Intellectuelle in Geneva, Switzerland. The internationally respected graphic designers SeidlCluss are responsible for the design of this book.
