These are pursued from the idea stage - the design intention - to constructional implementation. The book follows the traditional building methods of massive, cross-wall, and skeleton construction and points the way toward a material-appropriate constructional approach to the design-defining structural components wall, support, ceiling, and roof. It shows how, in the design process, constructional considerations are brought together with spatial and formal commitments. The structural components are classified, described, and detailed in terms of their materiality and also in formal and constructional terms. The accompanying international examples provide clear illustrations of their practical implementation.
