La FUNDACIÓN LÁZARO GALDIANO emprendió hace tiempo con tesón el empeño honroso de catalogar y estudiar sus ricas colecciones artísticas y fondos bibliográficos que legó José Lázaro generosamente al Estado en 1947
Quedaba pendiente un conjunto de piezas que por sus características requería un momento especialmente favorable, pues no era tarea sencilla emprender el estudio de manuscritos en árabe, armenio, hebreo o persa, y ahora ha llegado la ocasión propicia para darlos a conocer en esta exposición en la que se muestran las obras más notables de la colección. Entre las expuestas se hallan piezas de extraordinaria calidad y belleza, excepcionales en colecciones españolas.
Esta exposición pone de manifiesto, como ocurre cuando se estudia cualquier otra colección de las reunidas por Lázaro Galdiano, que sus frecuentes viajes, su carácter cosmopolita, su situación económica ventajosa, su curiosidad y su preparación intelectual fueron factores decisivos para lograr verdaderas obras maestras del arte oriental. La pintura y la caligrafía de algunos manuscritos y de las hojas sueltas que fue adquiriendo en distintas etapas de su vida, resultan deslumbrantes testimonios de una rica y lejana herencia cultural.
Afortunadamente, por el gesto espléndido que José Lázaro Galdiano tuvo al final de su vida, estas piezas, de diversa procedencia, forman parte del patrimonio artístico español custodiadas en la Fundación que lleva su nombre.
