Non solo le Carte del Restauro costituiscono i "Codici per la Conservazione" riportati in questo testo voluto dell'Istituto Mnemosyne di Brescia e pubblicato quale secondo Quaderno del "Centro di studio e ricerca per la conservazione e il recupero dei beni architettonici e ambientali" della Facoltà di Ingegneria dell'Università di Brescia. L'obiettivo più diretto è quello dell'alta divulgazione destinata soprattutto ai proprietari e ai responsabili del patrimonio storico del Museo Italia. Ma particolarmente funzionale anche ai tecnici (progettisti, responsabili di cantiere, restauratori) che possono trovare nelle pagine di questo libro indicazioni preziose per l'esercizio delle loro professionalità. Nella logica implicita a questo testo, tuttavia, sono soprattutto i committenti a doversi assumere le loro inalienabili responsabilità anche per gli esiti del lavoro dei tecnici incaricati di attuarlo. A cominciare dalla qualità dei progetti. Qualità che può essere valutata proprio in riferimento alle indicazioni dei Codici qui riprodotti. La cui lettura è orientata dall'introduzione di Ruggero Boschi e - soprattutto per i proprietari privati e pubblici (particolarmente i Parroci) e per gli amministratori degli Enti Locali - dai richiami posti in nota da Pietro Segala. L'approccio di Boschi ai problemi della conservazione consente di rivisitare molti assunti e di riconsiderare criticamente molte teorie. Compresa quella che il restauro riguardi soltanto i materiali delle opere d'arte. Ma, anche, la deriva delle "opere d'arte" diventate "beni culturali". Gli scritti degli autori richiamano frequentemente che la conservazione sarà tanto più efficace quanto minore sia la manomissione dei materiali di storia e d'arte e quanto equilibrata sia la promozione del microclima necessario, negli ambienti di collocazione delle diverse opere d'arte, al benessere delle persone e alla durabilità del patrimonio storico.
